Typically, a process server will offer a much quicker speed of service than a sheriff, mainly because your local sheriff's office often has other things going on. While law enforcement officials typically only serve during 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM office hours, a dedicated process server will work outside those hours if necessary. Process servers are usually just as knowledgeable about local laws as sheriffs, deputies, or other agents of the court.

Upon delivering the requested documents to the appropriate party or parties, an experienced process server will provide a notarized Affidavit of Service, or Proof of Service, to the person who requested service.
